Lost Woods Radio

A special episode 0 of Lost Woods Radio, where Ellie and Silver do their best to figure out what the podcast is. This is very nuts-and-bolts, but feel free to listen before Episode 1 goes live!

Ellie: A lot’s happened in the last few months that

Silver: Yes.

Ellie: takes up a lot of brain space, so.

Silver: So, if this recording goes out to the public, this is us trying to figure out what the healthiest are going to be. We don’t have a title yet, so Hello Untitled podcast. I’m assuming that there will be, an intro song at, on this one, or maybe there won’t, who knows? Um, oh God. So, hello.

Hi. I’m Silver-Streak. Or Silver. Uh, Ellie say hi.

Ellie: Hi, I am Ellie.

Silver: Yeah. Ellie and I have a shared love for all things Zelda, uh, legend of Zelda, the video game series. And, I said, Hey, Ellie, do you just wanna talk about Zelda, on, on one of the streams that she was doing? And she’s like, yeah. And so I came up with an idea of , or at least the rough framing of idea of, Hey, what if we talk about every Zelda game, EVERY Zelda game, with one game per episode where we try to talk about everything that we remember about that title, and then do our best to figure out where it exists on the Greater Zelda timeline, and then once we’re done, we compare it to the actual timeline and see how well we did.

Um. Yeah.

Ellie: I’m like nodding enthusiastically

Silver: Yes. Yes. Yeah, because like, uh, Ellie, you and I, I, I think have a very, shared love of like, lore in games, especially in Zelda games. And, we both have very similar tastes in a lot of cases for Zelda games, but not always the same tastes. I have played through these games a lot.

Ellie, you’ve played through these games even more than I have, including on stream. So yeah, the, the hope is, um, if it makes sense anyway, I, I don’t know the exact structure, but yeah, like one episode per game. Unless we somehow churn out these things here, that might mean that an episode could be 15 minutes.

That could mean that it’s, it’s 30 minutes to do something like that. It depends on how, how deep we get into it. The, the. Idea on a per episode basis would be, Hey, let’s talk through as much of the events that are from that game. And then maybe like, um, maybe if we also, if it makes sense, Hey, is this, is this game the first time x, y, or Z person or group or whatever appeared?

And then, maybe we look up how accurate we are on that afterwards. I don’t know how easy it’ll be to look up those things without spoiling ourselves.

Ellie: could do like a tally for recurring characters, because I feel like that’s kind of,

Silver: Yes.

Ellie: part of the Zelda in general is

Silver: Yes.

Ellie: a princess, there’s always a badie. There’s well, an incarnation of the goddess. There’s

always

Silver: Mm-hmm.

Ellie: a, a bad guy. There’s always a hero, you

know?

Silver: How many times has the postman been there? Uh.

Ellie: the hand come out the toilet? You know,

Silver: Yeah.

Ellie: yeah,

Silver: Yes. Yes. So that was the, the general idea. And then like, we, we can compare. I have, I’m trying to figure out a way to do it. But I think I have a way that we can easily order the games as we figure them out on like a, a board. And then that way we can move them as we go through more games.

And so we feel like, okay, this is our final timeline.

Ellie: Like. It would be, ’cause I’ve, I’ve studied the timeline a fair bit.

Silver: Mm-hmm.

Ellie: feel like it would be fun to like find the connections more than order them ourselves.

’cause

Silver: Sure.

Ellie: the official timeline was released, like in the Hy Historia, ’cause again, I have all the books. Um,

Silver: I mean, it was just changed again, but yes.

Ellie: There’s only been like a couple more games hasn’t there since then?

So

Silver: Yeah.

Ellie: yeah. Even though the high Historia came out, what? Like

Silver: 2011.

Ellie: Ugh, yikes. I was gonna say 10 years ago, closer to 15 years ago

Silver: Yeah. I might also be wrong. It’s, it’s been a while. I mean, there was that, and then the, what is it like creating a champion? That one is, is one that also changed things around and.

Ellie: breath of the wild, isn’t

Silver: Mm-hmm. Yep. And echoes of, of wisdom also changes things around a little bit. Um, so yeah, I, and again, it’s, it’s, none of this is like, meant to be a super strong challenge.

It’s just a fun thing and it’s a way for, for, uh, you and I to get a chance to just hang out for a little bit and talk about things that we, we both greatly enjoy. Yeah. Um, I don’t. I don’t have any intention of making this a video thing unless you want to. Like, I don’t, I don’t have any concerns that, but like if it’s supposed to be a relaxing thing, I don’t want you to have to worry about lighting or going in, if you care about makeup or any of that stuff.

Like,

Ellie: I mean, I’m in my pajamas with all my

Silver: yeah.

Ellie: top of my head right

Silver: Hell yeah.

Ellie: makeup on. So

Silver: Yeah.

Ellie: Comfy, time.

Silver: Yeah, that’s, that’s the best. I have both dogs laying asleep underneath my legs right now, so it’s a good time. The, yeah, so like we don’t, we don’t have to do it as a video thing and it makes it just easier from an editing perspective anyway. Um, lemme think here. So I should write these things down as I’m actually saying them.

All right. So, alright. So.

Ellie: see me waving my arms around discussing things and, and like

Silver: Yes, yes.

Ellie: physically. So.

Silver: People will not have to see my, my, uh, v YouTuber, avatar, scrunch its face as I try to remember something. Um, okay, so, ooh, here’s an interesting one. Release order or alphabetical,

Ellie: Release,

Silver: because alphabetical could really screw with our recollection in some cases. Yes.

Ellie: order. Okay.

Silver: All right.

Ellie: otherwise it’s just gonna like, it’ll be a mess

Silver: Yeah, I mean, yes, but that’s also the interesting thing to make it a challenge. Right? That’s, it’s fine. All right. Each episode or release order of the games, our goal is to, talk about what is the timeline of that game. Like, what are the events of that game? That’s not a sentence that I just wrote down, but I’ll fix that later.

I talk about, talk about what events are of that game. That’s not, that’s not a word. Yeah. First appearance of anything, like any character, uh, thematic, uh, item.

Ellie: Yeah,

Silver: Um, yep. Sure.

Ellie: the enemies are kind of how the timelines are tied together, I guess.

Silver: So, so here’s the question First. Appearance as in like in a game or first appearance? In the timeline.

Ellie: Ooh.

Silver: Why not both?

Ellie: Yeah, maybe both. ’cause they’re kind of like the first Zelda games are, they include a bunch of enemies and concepts and

Silver: Mm-hmm.

Ellie: never seen again. So,

Silver: Or at least not for a real long time. Yeah. Um, okay. Um. So first appearance of any, any character thematic item, enemies, both in the timeline and in a video game product. Um, alright. Uh, we are going to, I think we should probably keep this to actual, like Zelda, so, okay. Do we bring in links to crossbow training?

Do we, do we bring in hyrule warriors?

Ellie: Uh, so I feel like we should stick with the cannon and Al Warriors is not Cannon

Silver: I, so, yeah, like the,

Ellie: was, but, ’cause it’s, it’s alternate timeline stuff, isn’t it? So,

Silver: yeah, I mean, it’s, it’s, well, at first I thought it was them trying to explain how tears of the kingdom could even happen. I. But that tears of the kingdom. Oh, we’ll get into it. We’ll get into it. Save that for the episode. Uh oh. So there’s a que uh, no release order. Release order solves that question.

Okay. Alright. I was about to ask, do we do tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild before or after all the other games? Uh, release, release order. Makes sense. Um,

Ellie: as

Silver: yeah.

Ellie: what they bring.

Silver: Well, because it, it almost feels like Nintendo themselves have differing internal opinions on it, whether they care, like, so they go for different phases of, well, we don’t care about the timeline, but also we kinda care about the timeline.

Um, okay. So first appearance of any characters or, or themes or enemies, items, anything? The first appearance of a thing that we care to talk about, like none of no one’s. Yes. Uh, we’re not grading ourselves on this. Like, it’ll be interesting to see how close or accurate we are. Um, titles are fine.

There’s no concerns there. Like I, if I don’t get to talk about Links Awakening and the, uh, the Oracle C games, I’ll be very sad. Um, I’m going to put out a call and say that the Nintendo watch version of Zelda one does not count. Um, I think I still

Ellie: you mean?

Silver: have You never seen that Nintendo put out a series of watches?

Ellie: in the Nintendo

Silver: Yeah.

Ellie: Zelda franchise.

Silver: I think I might have, I might still have the wristband of the one that I had when I was very young.

Ellie: my God.

Silver: Uh, just ’cause it was a weird thing to buy. Right? I do have, I have the, uh, Zelda game and watch that I bought the, that they put out like as a anniversary thing. That thing’s rad. But it’s just the games, like that’s the actual games.

Uh, okay. So, okay. Each episode of release the Order of Games, talk about the, what events are, and this is gonna be helpful ’cause I’m just gonna outright make a fricking structure for each episode. Uh, and just like, let’s fill out this section just so that I don’t forget what the hell we’re talking about.

Um. Do we talk about CDI games? We probably shouldn’t talk about the CDI games. I, I think if we get through all the games, maybe we do an episode where we just talk about all the side stuff.

Ellie: Yeah. Sure.

Silver: Yep. Yep. Like if we, that

Ellie: is like notoriously

Silver: it’s weird. Um, I will say that they’re, they’re not good games, but you can see what they were trying to do.

Ellie: mm.

Silver: Um, and like if they controlled better, they might have actually been good games. There. There was, um, there was a game release last year that was made by fans of the, those games, Dr. Like so much that they went and made their own, what the hell was the name of that? Um, Zelda game made by like, it was released to retail.

It doesn’t actually have Zelda, like it’s their own world and everything like that. Um. I’ll have to look that up. I’ll, uh, I’ll have to look that up. It, it was, it reviewed really well and apparently like, Hey, what if they made one of these, that’s still the same level of difficulty, but you were controlling with something that was meant as a video game controller and not as a DVD player remote.

Um, so yeah. Okay. Well the, so, uh, non, I don’t even know what I would say mainline, but let’s just say side games are last episode, uh, ’cause I’d also like to talk about cadence of hyrule, which is freaking amazing.

Um, okay. Um, is there anything that you would want to include in these that I’m not thinking about?

Ellie: Um,

I don’t know.

Silver: Awesome.

Ellie: a fan of like a fun fact trivia type thing.

Silver: I think that’s kind of our entire episodes.

Ellie: that’s that. Yeah.

Silver: I mean, so like, maybe it’s also interesting to, and we don’t have to do this, but like. Maybe if we’re not gonna rank where they are on the timelines and try to release our own timeline, what if we put them as our own personal rankings for like where we view these as our favorite games of the series?

Ellie: God, sure. It’s

Silver: We don’t have to.

Ellie: between my children, but

Silver: Yes. I mean, and that’s okay. Like the, the thing is like, it’s just meant to be our list. And I, I’m gonna say right now that we can have ties if we want in our own lists. Uh, because I will go back and forth between Twilight Princess and other games any day of the week, depending on what I feel like.

Um. Ranks on our lists. Okay, I think that that fills an episode unless there’s something else that should be in there. Alright. Um, so that’s, hey, that is what I had listed as segment one. Decide what the heck the format is. Uh, here comes what I think might be the harder part. What do we call the podcast?

Ellie: Uh,

Silver: I mean, we can literally just make it Ellie and Silver talks about Zelda, but I don’t, I don’t know that that’s going to, to make a lot of sense to a lot of folks other than us, which is also fine.

Ellie: I’m terrible at naming things. I don’t

Silver: Uh huh. Me too.

Ellie: I’m, I’m absolutely trash at naming things, so, um.

Silver: I mean, I can pull up, I got a list of every single Zelda game, uh, and I started trying to figure out does that key off things that make sense as podcast titles. Um, let me, let me give you that link again. Yeah.

Ellie: it. I’ve got, I’ve got the list.

Silver: Okay. Uh, I tried to figure out just for you a way to make, ripen tingles balloon trip of love or freshly pink tingles Rosy Ruland into something that made sense.

I got nothing.

Ellie: But it’s, he’s

not

Silver: I. No, no. I mean, there’s, there’s two of us, right? So a lot of these things like, Hey, can, can we make them plural? Like, Hey, the adventures of Link make a lot, uh, instead of the adventure of Link, the adventures of link, links to the past was ones I threw up, there were threw out there.

Saying threw up makes it sound much worse. A link between timelines is decent. Echoes of time is not bad. , in my opinion. Cadence of hyrule means timelines of hyrule. That’s not terrible. Tears of the timeline, I’m like, I don’t know.

Ellie: Yeah, I have no idea. I am not good at naming. I have been trying to think and not got anywhere, so I.

Silver: I also thought of the three timelines with the question mark at the end, but unfortunately I don’t know how well that works if they’re gonna add another one.

Ellie: Yeah. Um,

Silver: Oh, I forgot about Triforce Heroes. You can do triforce timelines, unfortunately, that then makes the abbreviation is TFT, which I think is also like an idol game.

Ellie: I mean, yeah. Team, team fight tactics,

that’s,

Silver: right.

Ellie: I honestly don’t know. I

Silver: Okay.

Ellie: to noodle on this.

Maybe

Silver: Yeah.

Ellie: community to it and

Silver: True.

Ellie: that might give us something. Nothing is like jumping out at me,

Silver: Yeah, it’s, it’s.

Ellie: bad at this, so,

Silver: Yeah, I try to name all of my stream series. I’m not good at it, but I do try to give them thematic names. Like I have creature comforts for video games that are about animals in some way. I have AI initiatives or anything that deals with sentient life, right? But like, none of those are great.

They just, I need to name them something. So the playlist makes sense when it’s multiple gig.

Ellie: Like land on something that, that. Feels right. I think when you are doing it yourself, you’ll always be like criticizing it and being like, does this make sense? And yeah, I think it, it needs to, it needs to be something that is clearly Zelda,

Silver: Yes.

Ellie: but that also ties in maybe not even so much the timeline stuff, maybe even just like law aspects.

But. Yeah, I don’t know. I, my brain is sleepy.

Silver: It’s okay. I like, yeah. ’cause if you’re gonna talk about lore aspects, then it could very easily be like a link between lore or lore between worlds. Lore to the past. Again, none of these are great. I’m just throwing out stuff there. So let me, lemme just write this down. We’ll just say that was segment one, segment two: What the hell do we call this?

Ellie going to ask her chat community and I’ll do the same. I feel like I cursed myself because I only ever started titling my series when I first replayed through the Myst Games. Uh, and then came up with like, uh, clearing the Myst, MYST.

And then I was like, oh, this, I, I’ve felt like I hit something. Everybody was really connected with that. Everybody really liked it now I’m gonna do this forever. And that’s, that was a bad decision. Um, not a bad decision, It’s a hard decision. So, we can, we can circle back around on that, uh, this one.

Okay. So what I had written down for segment three is like, what, what do we use as the music, for those that are, if this does go out for those that are listening. I am not a musician, so I’m not gonna be making music, but, I use, I use a lot of royalty free sites that you can go and purchase a license for whatever purchase.

And there’s some stuff out there that had like, Hey, these sound kind of Zelda-y I will. I, this is probably not gonna play for the podcast. I don’t know if there’s a way to share this into the podcast audio, but, um, let’s see. Let’s see. See if this works. So one I wanted to call out specifically. Let’s see here. Uh, um, will this actually work? Let’s find out. Uh, we are. Oh, wow. That was not intended. Um,

Ellie: I don’t hear anything.

Silver: you, yes, and you shouldn’t. Uh, I. I’m gonna see if this works. I doubt it’s going to work, but we’ll see.

Ellie: Oh

Silver: So maybe that shows up for you. Okay. We, I don’t know if this is going to record or not. We’re gonna find out, uh, if you, if you, this guys get released and you all don’t hear anything upcoming, don’t worry about it. We’ll explain, I’ll throw it in the podcast notes or whatever.

Throw this in here. Uh, segment three. I feel like picking the music was potentially the easiest of these. Uh, all right. That’s great. And so really the last thing is how often do you wanna record? Like, do we doing once a month, twice a month.

Ellie: I think when we have time

Silver: Okay.

Ellie: also

Silver: good with that.

Ellie: the music.

Silver: Yes. That’s on my fault. My, my speakers were, for some reason, said very

Ellie: Okay. Just, just wanted to check.

Silver: That’s

Ellie: Yeah. ’cause as, as you’ve seen, sometimes I’ll be randomly very, very, very busy for like six weeks straight.

Silver: I mean, hey, that’s, that’s great. Honestly.

Ellie: I’m like, I’m down to do if, I mean the episodes we said like somewhere between like 15 and 45 minutes, whatever, depending on.

I mean, the Twilight Princess one’s probably gonna be a, a beefcake. But like,

Silver: we got a long way to go, Ellie, before we make it to Twilight Princess.

Ellie: but like I could do like once a week for shorter ones or like if we know it’s gonna be like a bumper one, maybe it’ll be like one weekend we’ll sit down and do like an afternoon or whatever and yeah. I don’t know. It’s, I’m easy. It’s just more like being flexible, which you have already very much been around my schedule and yeah.

’cause. Full-time content creation is, is a nightmare. So, yeah.

Silver: Look, part-time, not content creation is a nightmare. So full-time content creation is that times infinity. Um, so that makes sense to me. I don’t have any concerns with that. I would like if, if possible. I would Like us to at least try and get one, one a month. It it, yeah.

And, and if it ends up needing to be delayed, that’s, that’s fine. It’s not a huge deal. The only reason I say that is if we don’t at least aim for a goal there, we might go, I can say this from previous podcasts, someone, it could be like six months and then it just falls off the radar, which is also okay if that ends up being the case.

but I don’t, uh, at least saying, Hey, let’s try And hit once a month. That makes it easier. Also, if.

we do record once in a month to say like, all right, we, we know that other stuff’s coming up. We can wait until next month or anything like that.

Ellie: I think that sounds good.

Silver: Awesome. So if this episode does go up, hey, that does not include this episode.

We’ll probably try to record again at some point sooner than May. Hopefully. So then comes the, the one that I don’t know, like, so the last thing that I had on here was, a logo, like for the actual podcast art. I am not an artist.

I can go commission someone if we have an idea. Um. You are an artist, if you have an idea, that’s great.

Like, so I was poking around, ’cause I could not sleep. And my initial thought was try to get it as legally distinct from a triforce as possible, but also identified as a triforce. So my thought was, I’m gonna throw this in here. This was, this is 4 billion hours in, this was like 20 minutes in, in Affinity designer.

But like, hey. Two pieces of a triforce and an hourglass in the center and some sort of like neon look or something like that to make it identifiable, but not, legally a triforce. , but I also, I don’t, I don’t know, like, I don’t know. You probably could do way better than anything on

Ellie: No, I think that looks good so far. Like I can, I can make that work. Like that is not, it’s not a Triforce.

Silver: Nope, but you could still look at it and go, oh, that’s

Ellie: Yeah, it’s probably Zelda related, you know, like, yeah. Uhhuh.

Silver: For those that are listening, if this is going up, it is a triangle, an equilateral triangle with another equilateral triangle in the center of it. And then inside of that there are two small triangles that are on the lower corners where the triforce would normally be.

And there’s white text in the center, says hourglass here. ’cause I couldn’t find an hour glass, that would, that would work. And it’s a gradient. I thought, because we’re talking about the timelines and links, outfit tends to go from, green in the past, and then now he’s currently always blue.

And so it’s a gradient from green to blue. It does not have to be that, is, if that makes sense. And you want to take a crack at an hourglass. I could see what I could find. If, if there’s something else on there, I can also try and finalize it. It’s whatever you prefer.

Ellie: I think that works. Like I love that you were like, I don’t know what to do for a logo, and then you’re like, here’s an almost complete logo.

Silver: Look, I drew, I used the triangle of of shape designer in the thing. I’m like, I’m just gonna do, I’m gonna make triangles until something looks okay. And it, it looked okay. Uh, do you, do you wanna take a stab at it? Do you want take?

Ellie: Yeah, I can do

Silver: Great. Yes. For those of you that.

don’t know, Ellie’s a great artist.

Um,

Ellie: I almost choked on my coffee

Silver: Sorry. Yes, so that, that’s rad. That makes that a little bit easier. Um, and then we, we will want to have that before we upload this anywhere. But I don’t think we’ll upload this anywhere until we’ve also got episode one in the can. And then we can just put this up there as like an introduction and then say, Hey, episode one will be x, y, z date in the, the notes. I think that’s everything.

Ellie: that sounds like everything.

Silver: we need to get a title. That’s really the only like open thing. I need to get something that makes it easy for us. ’cause I don’t wanna write notes. Makes it easy for us to, if we’re gonna build out our like own personal, this is where this ranks for me.

And what I will say is like, we should only rank. The ones that we’ve actually talked about so far, right? Meaning after episode one, the only thing that’s going to literally be on our list is the legend of Zelda. And that just makes it easier for us to like move stuff up and down the list as we talk through them.

Ellie: Yes.

Silver: Does that make sense? I will also try and figure out a way for us to, to throw stuff on a timeline chart. Or maybe not a timeline chart. Maybe it’ll just be like a Trello that we can move things up and down, whatever. It doesn’t matter. I just don’t wanna have to mainly write anything, is what I’m saying.

Um, awesome. I mean, that’s, that’s, that’s the podcast. I think, I think this is at least an interesting enough conversation, assuming that I can edit it together from my nonsense that, we can, put this up as an episode zero. There’s anything on here that you feel like we shouldn’t put up?

Ellie: Uh, no, I don’t think so.

Silver: All right.

Ellie: That feels like a trick question.

Silver: I, I don’t know. I, I have been a co-host on a podcast before. I’ve normally not been on the editing side before, so this will be an interesting challenge for me. I don’t know, it’s gonna be a challenge. Rad, this has been a whopping 24 ish minutes, 25 ish minutes. Other than some technical issues, I, I’m excited to do this.

Ellie: me too.

Silver: Alright, well this is where I’m gonna be editing in music that is an outro and you might hear me talking over it or whatnot. But other than that, I’m gonna hit this stop recording button.
